The Office of Department Services staff actively partner with our academic department chairs and faculty as well as colleagues servicing other business offices to support the educational and research mission of the university. Our primary goal is to provide timely, friendly, and innovative support for communication and administrative activities while being adaptable to evolving timelines and priorities.

Services may include:

Administrative, Communication & Event Support 

  • Administrative support for department chairs.
  • Respond to questions from faculty and staff from other business offices within and external to SSHA.  Provide feedback and guidance as well as direction to relevant resources.
  • Coordinate/schedule and facilitate faculty department meetings; create meeting agendas and minutes as well as follow-up to ensure action items are assigned and completed.
  • Update department websites and social media pages.
  • Create, disseminate and post "Did You Know" updates for faculty and staff based on questions frequently asked of SSHA staff.
  • Facilitate voting protocol for academic department business.
  • Create and disseminate surveys for a variety of purposes on behalf of multiple stakeholders as well as review, analyze and report results.
  • Collect and store course syllabi for each semester/session as well as respond to requests for syllabi.
  • Disseminate information on behalf of the department chairs and other entities to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Assist with purchase and reimbursement requests by providing policy guidance, instructions, and/or submitting to CBS2 or through UC financial systems, on behalf of the department.
  • Assist department chairs with course scheduling by (examples) collecting and organizing teaching preferences, gathering IOR petition signatures, record-keeping.
  • Assist department chairs in monitoring, researching, and tracking the academic department budget expenditures.
  • Event support services including (but not limited to) event consultation, catering, travel arrangements, payments, advertising, venue needs, purchasing and reimbursements.
  • Initiate and partner on special projects with SSHA leadership, SSHA staff as well as department chairs and faculty members. Collaborate on projects with multiple campus business offices.
  • Serve as archivists for academic departmental records,
