Sophia Ortega is a first-generation college student, majoring in philosophy, who is particularly interested in metaphysics and philosophy of religion. She enjoys attending guest lectures offered by the philosophy department and is eager to participate in the discussions that follow. Sophia is interested in using philosophy as a means to meaningfully converse with and connect with her peers, professors and friends. Following her graduation, she plans to pursue a PhD in Philosophy, and eventually become a professor herself . She is confident that the classes she has taken as a part of her major have given her the foundational skills necessary to write in a way that allows her to clearly express the ideas of others and herself, and to think critically about the world around her. Sophia views knowledge as intrinsically valuable and wishes to share the knowledge she has gained at UC Merced with as many people as she can.
