My passion for the field of Public Health is personal. As a young Black woman raised in Oakland, California, a city with a rich history but many social disparities compounded by a lack of access to preventive services have contributed to the city's poor health. Post-graduating, I plan to continue my education by pursuing a master's degree in public health with a concentration in epidemiology. As a future epidemiologist, I hope to conduct research that incorporates how the social determinants of health affect population health specifically among racial minorities. Ultimately, in the field of public health, I want to support systemic reform while working with disadvantaged communities to lessen health disparities and increase health equity.
