Monica Torres Mendoza is a first-generation college student. She is a fourth-year double majoring in Spanish and Management & Business Economics. During her time at UC Merced, Monica worked as a student assistant for the Department of Literature and Languages where she helped with the World Language, Chicano Studies, and Spanish programs. She also held officer positions for Sigma Delta Pi as Advertising Director and for Kappa Kappa Gamma as Vice President of Academic Excellence.
She is currently the president of Sigma Delta Pi and the Membership Chairman of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She recently started working as a private Spanish teacher for Language Door Language Schools company, where she teaches online classes for Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Spanish. She is also working as a Learning Assistant for the UC Merced, Center for Educational Partnership, where she serves as a tutor to incoming 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th-grade students in the Central Valley.
Monica plans on going to graduate school to obtain a Ph.D. in Hispanic Literature and Culture, in order to pursue a career as a Spanish professor.
