Modern Japanese History from the Meiji Restoration to the Present

This talk presents an overview of early modern Japanese history from the end of the feudal rule of the Tokugawa shoguns in 1868 to the present. It demonstrates how even a little understanding of Japan’s recent past can help you understand the Japan of today.

 

 

Tokyo and the Tokyo Olympics

1:30-2:30

This year, Japan will play host to the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo in what promises to be the largest international sporting event ever to take place in Japan. This talk focuses on the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and Paralympic Games and Japan’s vision for the games. It also looks at the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games and its effect on a resurgent post war Japan.
