Financial Stress, Health, and Behavior in California's Central Valley

Our interdisciplinary approach -- which integrates psychology, public health, economics, and political science-- offers the opportunity to push the frontiers of knowledge in multiple ways. Not only will we learn moreabout how stress mitigation can improve health; in a country where 71% of people worry about coveringregular expenses (Pew, 2018), our initiative will also unpack the consequences of financial stress and what interventions work. Our local focus on research and partners in the Central Valley offers to improve lives in aregion near the top of national poverty rankings.
