Culture in California's Central Valley

August 2, 2016 - 11:00pm to August 3, 2016 - 1:00am

Please attend a lecture by Ma Vang and Jan Goggans from 4:00pm to 6:00 pm on Wed. March 2 on Kolligian 217. Their topic is the experience of migration to California’s Central Valley and how it influences one’s sense of identity, particularly immigrant and refugee populations from a stunning array of ethno-cultural backgrounds.  The lecture is associated with “The Search for Common Ground: Culture in California’s Central Valley,” a Humanities Initiatives Grant project at Modesto Junior College (MJC) funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).

SPECIAL FEATURE:  Visuals from the Central Valley Working Class Culture Exhibit on Wilma McDaniel and Rose Maddux by UC Merced Professor Jan Goggans. The 2013 project focused on the poet Wilma McDaniel and "hillbilly music queen" Rose Maddox, and was later featured on Kolligian Library’s third floor.
